The Metro Atlanta Firefighters Conference (MAFFC) & the Firefighter Craftsmanship Crew
Recently the Firefighter Craftsmanship had the distinct honor to travel to Atlanta and share, learn and grow with some extremely motivated firefighters from around the country at the Metro Atlanta Firefighters Conference. Most of the firefighters that we had interaction with were from the South and East Coast and it was very cool to share the differences in culture of our area of the country and more specifically the fire departments and communities we serve.
We’d like to assure you that the American Fire Service is alive and well!
Our class “Mental Toughness for the Fireground” was co-taught with the legendary Ric Jorge and the Tactical Resiliency Training crew. We covered a ton of topics over two days worth of learning and work including mental toughness, bodies response to stress, breath control for the firefighter, firefighter tactical fitness, nutrition, sleep, visualization, and the inner voice. It was a ton of information but it was all tied together using hands on practical application that each student was able to take back to their respective departments and instantly implement.
Here is some of the feedback we received from this class:
“The Mental Toughness for the Fireground Class reinforced overcoming mental hurdles, feeling prepared to face whatever dangers and challenges I face in this job and life. It also reinforced being able to be ok learning and failing.”
“We got to see first hand that applying the stress reduction techniques taught in the classroom DOES work!”
“I learned about thought, emotion, and air management that will help me not only on the fire ground and station, but I’m my home life as well.”
We’re very excited for what is to come in the fire service and for some future opportunities to work and learn with firefighters from all around the country. Stay tuned for some more upcoming training opportunities in the near future!
