In today’s world there are infinite resources out there for anything you’re looking for, including fitness. One of the struggles firefighters face is finding a program that is right for them. There’s a lot of resources out there that are…let’s just say…not ideal. But there are a lot of great ones out there too. Some are free, some cost but are fairly inexpensive. The excuse of not working out because you don’t know what to do is not valid.

Mountain Tactical Institute: Rob Shaul is a well known coach and programmer who provides many programs designed with different goals in mind.

SOFLETE: These guys come from the Special Forces arena and also provide some great programming. They typically offer a free 10 day trial.

CrossFit Evolve: This is the gym where we train, as well as many firefighters we work with. We also follow this program at the station when we’re on duty, with modifications to make the workouts team based or on air/in gear. Best of all, the workouts are posted daily FOR FREE.

555 Fitness: Well known in the fire service, these guys provide daily workouts that are easy to throw down in the station.

CrossFit: Some cringe at the name but the reality is that many in the fire service have successfully followed CrossFit programming for a long, long time because of the success they’ve had with it.

Brute Force Sandbags: These guys are great and all of our stations have kits from them thanks to our departments’ Fitness Committee. They do sell programs on their site but they also have an app that gives you FREE sandbag workouts.

O2X: These guys have been doing a lot in the tactical fitness space in the Northeast, especially the Boston area. Their book is legit and they offer a monthly membership with access to workouts, nutrition, and recovery information.
